KUCHING, June 29: The construction and renovation sector in Sarawak is listed under essential services and is allowed to operate throughout the Movement Control Order (MCO) which has been extended until July 12.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the construction sector includes minor repairs/maintenance services by individuals or privately by a registered contractor.

“The said sector is allowed to operate and provide repair, maintenance, supply and services.

“They are also allowed to conduct critical maintenance and repairs works, public infrastructure construction works, as well as building construction works that provide complete accommodation for workers on construction sites or workers housed in Centralised Labour Quarters (CLQ),” the committee said in a statement today.

However, the operation of the construction sector must be strictly in accordance with the stipulated operation period and employment activity capacity requirements set out in the standard operating procedures (SOP) under the MCO. — DayakDaily
