MIRI, June 25: Construction on the new Miri-Marudi road will start next year.
According to Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, the route will be built according to R5 standard and will shorten the journey by 20km.
“Once this road is completed, Marudi will be a must-stop town, and that is why the Sarawak Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) has instructed the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) to construct a three-star hotel at the current location of the guest house building,” he said during a Gawai Dayak gathering in Marudi yesterday (June 24).
“This is not a dream but a reality because the State government has approved it,” he pointed out.
Another phase of this high-impact project would connect Marudi to Long Linai, Long Panai, Long Terawan, Kuala Melinau, and further up to Limbang and Lawas to create the Trans-Borneo Highway.
“These would be implemented in stages,” said the Marudi assemblyman. — DayakDaily
