Construction company manager pleads not guilty to cheating house buyers of RM97,000

KUCHING, Sept 20: A manager of a construction company claimed trial to three charges of dishonestly inducing three different individuals to pay deposits to construct houses but the construction work was not carried out as promised.

Ho Wee Khiang, 49, pleaded not guilty to all three charges framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Zaiton Annuar allowed the accused to be released on cash bail of RM7,500 with two local sureties.

However, the accused failed to make bail and will be further remanded in Puncak Borneo prison.

Zaiton also fixed October 21 for pre-trial case management.

The accused was charged with cheating three individuals of a total of RM97,000 by deceiving them to believe that he provided house construction services and dishonestly inducing the victims to pay him the deposit for the construction in December 2020.

He was arrested by the Kuching Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) on September 11, 2021.

He was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term of between one and 10 years, and with whipping and liable to fine, upon conviction. — DayakDaily
