Construction begins on 4km road, 2 bridges across Sg Asap to improve access for Belaga communities

KUCHING, Oct 30: Construction has begun on a nearly 4-kilometre road, including two bridges over Sungai Asap, to connect the Sungai Asap Resettlement Scheme in Belaga.

The groundbreaking ceremony, part of the Sarawak government’s initiative to enhance accessibility to longhouses, schools (including SK Batu Keling and SMK Bakun), and local government offices, was officiated by Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon on-site yesterday (Oct 29).

According to a post shared on the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak’s social media, the project consists of three roads: Road A spans 2.601km, Road B measures 1.085km, and Road C is 0.234km long.

Chukpai highlighted that the completion of this project is expected to reduce travel time and improve comfort and convenience for the local community in their daily activities.

“We have been anticipating this road for a long time. It will foster sustainable development in the area.

“I urge the local community to cooperate and support the smooth implementation of this project,” he stated.

Before the groundbreaking ceremony, a briefing on the project was presented by JKR Kapit Division engineer Ir Ts Jawa Gara.

Belaga District Officer Bidah Lujah, Land and Survey Department Kapit enforcement officer Sagu Until, and other senior officers from JKR Kapit were present. — DayakDaily
