KUCHING, Nov 26: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap questioned the credibility of the Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) political claims, saying its leaders frequently blame the State government for flooding, infrastructure failures, and rising living costs despite holding key Federal positions.

“DAP continues to complain like powerless outsiders, yet they sit comfortably in the Federal Cabinet,” he said during the Supply Bill 2026 debate in the Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.

“If you hold power, you must deliver results. Anything less is performative politics,” he stressed.

He characterised the party’s responses to seasonal flooding as performative, relying on dramatic videos and emotive statements rather than concrete engineering solutions, while asserting that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)-led state government prioritises long-term planning such as reinforced riverbanks, monsoon channels and structured drainage improvements, adding that these require technical execution and sustained funding rather than political theatrics.

Yap also pointed to rising living costs as a Federal issue, including taxes, subsidies and import regulations. He said DAP ministers should be accountable for these problems instead of deflecting blame to the state.

He added that DAP’s pattern of criticising Sarawak while holding Federal power exposes a gap between words and action. DayakDaily
