KUCHING, Feb 12: Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha revealed that the number of student applications to study in government religious primary schools is very competitive and encouraging.

“The (number of) requests to enrol in a national religious school is very encouraging. There is a trend these days. But only those who passed a special entrance examination would be accepted for a slot at the school,” he said.

“For example, like Sekolah Kebangsaan (Agama) Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir Hassan can accommodate 210 students, but this year, the school has received more than 700 applications,” he told reporters after officiating at the Quran Recital Reading programme at the same school today.

Misnu said he is proud of performances of teachers at religious schools all over Sarawak which also impart a good education to their students.

“These schools also emphasise on the three languages of Arab, English and Malay. At this moment, their performance is encouraging.”

Meanwhile, Misnu explained the Quran recital reading today involved 200 students who had completed their primary education.

“This is an annual event that involves Islamic schools in Sarawak. There are 11 such schools in Sarawak, and this is one of their annual programmes,” he said. ā€” DayakDaily
