KUCHING, July 31: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today launched MISPRO, a digital platform aimed at modernising mosque and surau services as well as improving access for the Muslim community in Sarawak.
Developed by Majlis Islam Sarawak (MIS), or Sarawak Islamic Council, MISPRO is a comprehensive application designed to facilitate mosque and surau-related affairs digitally, including community engagement and administrative processes.
Abang Johari said the platform was part of efforts to enhance services through digital transformation, while strengthening cooperation between MIS and strategic partners.
“This will become a strategic effort for us to improve our services to the Muslim community and perhaps also the non-Muslim community through cooperation between Affin Islamic Bank and Majlis Islam Sarawak,” he said during the Ziarah Mahabbah MIS 1448H/2026M Central Zone programme held at Dataran Pehin Setia Raja in Mukah today, according to a live broadcast by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).
The MISPRO initiative is a collaboration between MIS and HPCS Sdn Bhd, with Affin Islamic Bank serving as the official banking partner.
Abang Johari also highlighted Sarawak’s growing economic strength following its acquisition of the largest shareholding in Affin Bank last year, noting that Affin Islamic Bank is a subsidiary of the banking group.
“With God’s blessing, last year we acquired the largest shareholding in Affin Bank. Indirectly, Affin is now majority-owned by Sarawak,” he said.
Also present were Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah; Deputy Health Minister Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib; Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; MIS president Datuk Misnu Taha and wife Datin Jamilah Said; Sarawak Mufti Datu Khalidi Ibrahim and wife Datin Faizah Abdullah; Chief Syarie Judge of Sarawak Datu Awang Suhaili Ledi; and Darul Hana Al-Quran Development Centre, Sarawak Islamic Council (DHQC-MIS) chief executive officer Mohamad Shalahudin Marzuki, who is also joint coordinator for the Ziarah Mahabbah MIS 2026 programme. — DayakDaily
