KUCHING, June 24: Community policing will be implemented throughout Sarawak effective July 15 in the battle against Covid-19.

State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas explained that community policing is a policy by the federal government which Sarawak will adopt and adapt to local conditions.

“It will involve Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK), Neighbourhood Watch Committee and various non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

“The instructions have been given to the Divisional Disaster Management Committees so that they can arrange for a briefing for all those involved to better understand their respective roles,” he told a press conference on Covid-19 today.

During this Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) phase, Uggah added that the focus will be given on educating the community.

“As such, we collaborate with community-based committees so that they can take up their roles in giving guidance on standard operating procedures (SOP) implementation as well as monitoring the compliance.

“We see that Sarawakians are aware of the importance of taking their responsibilities seriously especially in adhering to SOP. We hope all SOP can be smoothly carried out in Sarawak,” he said. —DayakDaily
