BAU, Sept 27: Siniawan will soon see the construction of a RM28 million multi-level parking complex and Hakka Centre, complete with a rooftop arena that can host up to 5,000 people, in a move set to ease congestion and further boost the town’s appeal as a cultural and tourism destination.
Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh said the project, located in front of Swee Guk Kung Temple, will feature at least four floors of parking to address the chronic shortage during weekends and major festivals when thousands of visitors throng the heritage town.
“Every time there is a big event in Siniawan, parking becomes a serious problem. That is why we are building this multi-level parking. On top of it, we will have a rooftop arena that can serve as a concert venue, accommodating 3,000 to 5,000 people at a time, adding value to Siniawan’s attractions,” he said during the Siniawan Waterfront launch ceremony today.
Miro had earlier revealed in a Sept 24 press conference that the multi-level car park project is expected to be tendered either next month or by November, with construction anticipated to begin next year.
A check by DayakDaily today found that the open space earmarked for the project, just a two-minute walk from Siniawan town, is currently being used as a makeshift parking area, with rows of vehicles parked under the scorching sun.
