“Come down for Covid-19 vaccination, over”: With no phone reception, walkie-talkies get job done

The vaccination drive carried out at Rumah Andah in Nanga Sumpa was well received.

LUBOK ANTU, June 24: Due to the unique circumstances, complications and challenges in rural Sarawak, Nanga Delok health clinic supervising officer Alvin Luger will be using a walkie-talkie to get longhouse residents to attend Covid-19 vaccination drives.

Health Ministry Sri Aman Division together with Lubok Antu Health Office will be carrying out a Covid-19 immunisation drive for residents in six longhouses at the Lubok Antu Nan Clinic vaccination centre (PPV) soon.

The longhouses involved are Rumah George in Tapang Pungga Ulu, Rumah Nyindang in Nanga Delok Ulu, Rumah Ribon in Menyang Sedi, Rumah Andah in Nanga Sumpa, Rumah Janggong in Pala Taong and Rumah Ninting in Nanga Jambu.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, Alvin will need to use a walkie-talkie or radio communication to contact the longhouse residents to attend the vaccination.

In addition, the team from the PPV also went down in person to the longhouse to set up vaccination operations according to the current situation and instruction from the clinic to roll out vaccine shots for residents.

Recently, the clinic had held a vaccination drive at Rumah Andah in Nanga Sumpa here to inoculate eligible residents from three longhouses including those from Rumah Andah as well as Rumah George in Nanga Jambu and Rumah Nyindang in Nanga Delok Ulu.

The vaccination drive was well received by the community and the exercise went smoothly. — DayakDaily
