The Deputy Premier recently concluded the first day of the Bario Expedition, which included a thorough inspection of critical rural infrastructure in Baram’s interior. Travelling 256 kilometres by land from Miri to the remote interior of Baram, the delegation’s visit highlighted the Sarawak government’s commitment to hands-on ground assessments of rural infrastructure conditions.

The expedition focuses on evaluating former and active logging roads that serve as vital lifelines for remote communities.

According to a statement released by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Uggah said a new approach to rural road maintenance is also expected to be introduced by the end of this year, with an emphasis on safety and usability.

An engagement session was held with community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) to gather direct feedback from the locals on infrastructure needs and welfare concerns.

Uggah expressed his appreciation to the officers from the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR Sarawak) who joined the expedition and braved the challenging terrain to ensure that infrastructure assessments are carried out comprehensively and effectively.

The expedition will continue today to Bario, where the delegation will inspect road extensions and hold dialogue sessions with local residents.

Joining the Sarawak Deputy Premier were Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala, Baram Member of Parliament Dato Anyi Ngau, Telang Usan Assemblyman Dato Dennis Ngau, Miri Division Resident Galong Luang, and director of JKR Sarawak Dr Cassidy Morris. – DayakDaily
