KUCHING, Feb 1: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is optimistic that Sarawak will ‘roar’ to greater heights in the coming years.

He said this is doable due to the huge mandate given by the people to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government in the recently concluded 12th Sarawak Election, as well as the support of the Chinese community.

“With additional seats, this is an indication that Sarawak, with the Year of Tiger, will roar in the coming years for us to develop the State into a high-income economy by 2030.

“This is a very tall order, but I believe with the resources that we have while at the same time upgrading the knowledge of our people, God willing, we will be able to achieve that objective,” he said when delivering his speech at the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Virtual Chinese New Year Open House today.

Abang Johari also thanked the business community, particularly the Chinese businesses, for their support and ideas in formulating the State’s post-Covid-19 economic recovery plan.

“We hope that with this new approach, where we have the input of both the private and public sectors, we are ready to develop our State, and our economic engine will move forward to a new era,” he added.

He also called upon the business community to work together with the State government to explore the possibility of using the State’s resources to transform its economy towards a green economy. – DayakDaily
