KUCHING, Jan 18: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has taken on the role as chancellor of the International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak University College (i-Cats UC).

i-Cats UC Pro-Chancellor and Sarawak Skills Development Centre chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Husain said the chief minister’s new role would pave the way in facilitating Sarawak’s transformation towards a developed state by 2030.

“Indeed, we welcome the chief minister as our chancellor. i-Cats UC will benefit from the chief minister’s broad spectrum of visionary insights and his vast experience as the architect of Sarawak’s transformation.

“This will go a long way to facilitate the development of industry-relevant courses and programmes to transform Sarawak’s economic and digital landscape. This will also facilitate the quest for Sarawak to become a high income and developed state by 2030,” he said during a courtesy call to the chief minister today.

Noting that i-Cats is now recognised as a University College by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), he also expressed gratitude to Abang Johari who had accepted the invitation to the official launching ceremony in March, 2021.

It would be a double celebration as the launching of i-Cats UC would be held in conjunction with the Sarawak Skills/ i-Cats 23rd Convocation, he said.

Also present were Sarawak Skills executive director and i-Cats UC Pro-Chancellor III Hallman Sabri, i-Cats UC Vice-Chancellor Mohamad Isham Fauzi, Sarawak Skills management council and i-Cats UC Pro-Chancellor II Dato Maznah Dasmi and i-CATS UC Board of Governors Hilmy Othman.—DayakDaily
