SIBU, July 1: More than 60 per cent of Sibu’s population have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as of June, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
According to Abang Johari, the figure involved a total of 149,743 individuals from the division.
“Out of 232,528 people in Sibu, about 64.4 per cent of those who are eligible for the vaccines have received their first dose,” he told reporters at a press conference held during his visit to the Industrial Covid-19 vaccination center (PPVIN) in UCTS Campus, yesterday.
During the visit, Abang Johari also launched the Mobile PPV programme to provide services for those who are unable to travel to the existing vaccination centers.
He praised the cooperation between both public and private services provided in Sibu under the supervision of Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee, who is also the Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) coordinator, for successfully organising the PPVIN in UCTS for the industrial workers, which is an addition to the existing PPV to help expedite the vaccination process in Sibu.
Among other PPVs in Sibu are those located in Sibu and Kanowit Hospital, Lanang Health Clinic, Sibu Jaya and Selangau, which is under the Ministry of Health (MOH), Sibu Indoor Stadium, Selangau Sibu Jaya Multipurpose Hall, Kanowit District Office Hall, Rejang Medical Centre, and KPJ Sibu, including four mobile PPVs.
In Sibu division, the vaccination programme hopes to inoculate a total of 7,000 individuals per day, while 33,727 (14.5 per cent) have completed their second doses, as of June 30.
Also present during the visit were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, Local Government and Housing Minister Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian and State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion. — DayakDaily
