KUCHING, April 13: Petra Jaya Health Clinic received the much needed personal protective equipment (PPE) for its medical personnel from Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii.

The PPEs worth RM8,000 were delivered to the health facility as part of the efforts to protect medical staff when screening individuals for Covid-19.

The DAP lawmaker said the clinic was in urgent need of extra PPEs considering that they have started their own “drive through” initiative for screening and sampling of Covid-19, specifically for medical frontliners, to help reduced the workload in at the Youth and Sports Complex.

This to ensure the frontliners can have a peace of mind and continue to concentrate on carrying out testing the general public.

“We were informed by the Petra Jaya clinic chief that currently, they are mainly concentrating on testing frontliners and staff, who were in contact with Covid-19 patients.

“Currently they (the clinic) can carry out test an average of 30 person per day, as they just started but they are looking to increase the capacity if needed,” he said in a statement.

Dr Yii Kelvin welcomed for the setting up of such facilities throughout the state, which also include screening for public.

He said that the process is quick and less time consuming, which could contribute to the efforts of breaking the Covid-19 chain of infection.

“Such facilities have been implemented in countries such as South Korea, as drive-through sampling is one of the more effective way as it is not only quicker, but it also helps promote proper distancing among the people.

“That is why we contribute the PPEs to help protect their staff, especially those involved with testing and also seeing patients that may be carrying the virus.

“We hope this will help them, as we show are utmost appreciation to all the frontliners that have served us tirelessly to protect and treat us,” he continued. — DayakDaily
