MUKAH, Jan 16: Kuala Lama-Mason River at Kampung Kuala Lama here experienced a logjam due to floating debris following the high tide phenomenon at the end of last year.
According to Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine, the incident was the second after the first logjam was cleared a month earlier in November last year.
The clogged river is preventing fishermen from being able to go out to fish or return home.
However, the work to clear the debris has started thanks to swift action by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Mukah.
“The Kuala Lama Village Security and Development (JKKK) has notified me regarding the logjam incident last week. Following that, the DID office had immediately attended to the matter in the same week.
“Complaining about any problem through the right channel like this is what we really hope to make it easier for all related parties to take appropriate action,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday after a visit to inspect the site.
Royston also thanked DID Mukah and JKKK Kuala Lama for conducting a meeting last Friday (Jan 13) to find a long-term solution for the problem. — DayakDaily
