KUCHING, July 8: The argument that the addition of new Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) seats eliminates the need for political secretaries is akin to saying that with the existence of police, there is no need for other security outfits or agencies, said Chief Political Secretary to the Premier, Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

In a statement today, Fazzrudin expressed regret that Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) is misrepresenting the roles of political secretaries to the Premier by suggesting they are no longer necessary following the expansion of DUS seats.

“I regret that Sarawak DAP is ill-informed about the role of political secretaries to the Premier of Sarawak and is portraying them as unnecessary.

“The role of political secretaries to the Premier of Sarawak is to support inclusive development, rural transformation, and sustainable economic growth by serving as the Premier’s eyes and ears on the ground for policy implementation,” he said.

He emphasised that political secretaries serve as vital links between the Premier’s Office and the people, especially in rural and interior regions where access remains a major challenge.

“Their role is not merely political but also developmental, enabling continuous engagement with the rakyat, facilitating the flow of accurate information, and ensuring that ground-level concerns are heard and addressed,” he stressed.

Fazzrudin, who is also Tupong assemblyman, added that it is the government’s duty to develop solutions to real-world problems faced by the community, particularly in rural areas, and this is where the role of political secretaries becomes crucial.

“I advise Sarawak DAP to look beyond their own constituencies and acknowledge the efforts made to effectively implement development throughout the State, which requires not only planning and finances but also active engagement and collaboration with the community,” he said.

DayakDaily reported that eleven individuals were sworn in for their reappointment as political secretaries to the Premier in a ceremony held at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) building yesterday (July 7).

The reappointment recognises their contributions and vital roles in supporting the Premier’s leadership and strengthening the State government’s political and administrative machinery at the grassroots level. — DayakDaily
