SIBU, Dec 1: Tamin incumbent Christopher Gira Sambang has said that he has been invited to a ‘watikah’ credential letters presentation ceremony slated to take place on Dec 3.

At the ceremony, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidates are expected to receive the letters from the party’s president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

When contacted today, Gira, 51, declined to reveal whether he would be defending his seat during the 12th Sarawak Election.

Gira won the 2016 Sarawak Election with a majority of 2,085 votes after garnering 6,230 votes against independent candidate Dr Ali Puji, who got 4,145 votes and PKR candidate Simon Joseph Usau with 954 votes.

He is expected to face former Selangau MP Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun from PSB, Muda Prinching (PBK) and also a candidate from PKR in the coming election.

“From what I have heard, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) have already expressed their desire to contest in the seat,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gira said a total of 1,802 projects worth RM355.160 million had been implemented in Tamin from 2016 to 2021.

He said of the total, 1,797 projects amounting to RM131 million were from the State government while five projects worth RM224.160 million were from the Federal government. — DayakDaily
