Christmas 2025: 14 items listed under price control scheme in Sarawak

KUCHING, Dec 23: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has listed 14 items under the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) for Christmas 2025, effective for five days.

KPDN director Matthew Dominic Barin said the scheme will be implemented Statewide two days before Christmas, on Christmas Day, and two days after.

Among the items namely imported bone-in mutton (sheep), chicken wings (Sabah, Sarawak and Federal Territory of Labuan only), live old chicken (Sarawak only), imported round cabbage (Indonesia and China, excluding Beijing cabbage), carrots (China), tomatoes, red chillies, green bell peppers, large red onions, large yellow onions, imported potatoes (China), live pigs (farm level only; controlled in Sarawak, Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan only), pork belly (Sabah, Sarawak and Federal Territory of Labuan only), and pork (meat and fat) (Sabah, Sarawak and Federal Territory of Labuan only).

The SHMPP Christmas 2025 will be enforced through the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011, at the farm, wholesale, and retail levels, where maximum prices have been gazetted and can be checked on the ministry’s website at www.kpdn.gov.my.

“We have mobilised a total of 207 enforcement officers throughout Sarawak and deployed 101 price monitoring officers. These officers will be present at all business premises, including wet markets and supermarkets, for seven consecutive days without rest days.

“We will conduct inspections to monitor compliance and investigate consumer complaints. Any non-compliance by traders will be subject to action under the relevant laws,” he said at Emart Batu Kawa today.

He also said KPDN will continue to strengthen the omnipresence of enforcement and price monitoring officers at all consumer-focused locations to create a safe and ethical business environment.

The walkabout was conducted to monitor compliance with the implementation of the Christmas 2025 SHMMP.

As of Dec 19, 2025, KPDN has conducted inspections on 125,296 business premises, which resulted in 399 cases, with seizures worth RM16.44 million and compounds totalling RM826,550, while under Ops Kesan 4.0, inspections at 175 premises involving 651 types of goods led to 11 investigation papers being opened.

Traders found breaching the scheme will face strict enforcement, with penalties of up to RM100,000 or three years’ jail for individuals, and fines of up to RM500,000 for companies, while failure to display pink price tags carries fines of up to RM10,000 or RM20,000.
