KUCHING, June 22: A Chinese national was arrested after allegedly cheating an elderly woman from Asajaya Laut by offering to repair her gold bracelet.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri in a statement today said the 77-year old victim, was approached by the suspect on June 18, offering a gold jewellery repair service.
“The victim later handed over a gold bracelet to the suspect to be repaired and was told it needed to be cleaned before repair can be done.
“After completing the work with RM2 payment, the suspect then handed over the bracelet to the victim, but it was found that the bracelet was received from the suspect in a damaged condition and not as it originally looked and felt,” he said in a statement today.
On June 19, the suspect was located in Kampung Rebak Asajaya and detained by the victim’s son, who later brought the suspect to the Asajaya police station.
“The suspect was arrested and detained by the police for further investigation,” Mohd Azman added. — DayakDaily
