Children’s home driver sentenced to 8 years in jail, two cane strokes for raping underage girl

KUCHING, Feb 15: A driver for a children’s home was sentenced to eight years’ jail and two strokes of the cane for raping an underaged girl under the care of the said home.

Mohd Jefry Abdullah, 49, was charged with two charges under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code.


Sessions Court Judge Jason Juga sentenced the accused to an imprisonment of eight years and one stroke of the cane for each charge, with the imprisonment terms to run concurrently.

The accused was charged with raping the 15-year-old girl at the multipurpose hall storeroom at the children’s home on March 29, 2018 and raping the same girl at the multipurpose hall male toilet in April 2018.

He was arrested after the home’s deputy principal discovered that the victim owned a hand phone. She was told that the phone was given by the accused to compensate the victim as he had raped her.

The home deputy principal lodged a police report immediately after she learned about the incident.
