Sarawak Hun Nam Siang Tng usually organises events to give out ‘angpow’ and food items just a few days before major festivities such as Chinese New Year, Hari Gawai Dayak, Hari Raya and Deepavali for the respective communities.

Earlier this year, 200 needy Chinese families received similar food bags before Chinese New Year while a total of 63 Dayak families had their turn just before Hari Gawai last month.

According to the organiser, the giveaway of goodies for needy members of the Indian community celebrating Deepavali has been fixed for October. However, so far only two families have registered.

Members of the public are encouraged to contact the charitable body should they come across any needy families who might need similar assistance.

Established since 1957, the reputable charitable body is known locally just as Hun Nam Siang Tng. Besides caring for elderly folks, it is also involved in other charitable activities including providing funeral services. — DayakDaily
