Centexs Open Day 2022 attracts crowd eager to experience new technology

KUCHING, June 8: A sizeable crowd comprising visitors from near and far, as well as from various fields, visited the Sarawak Centre of Technical Excellence (Centexs) Open Day 2022 and were impressed by the technology on display.

The event aims to provide visitors with the opportunity to see for themselves the technology available at Centexs for simultaneous learning purposes, as well as to attract young people interested in programmes in digital technology and technical skills.

Jarret Barnard, 40, who is an English language lecturer from Teacher Education Institute Batu Lintang Campus (IPGKBL), told DayakDaily that the ‘Centexs Digital Academy Showcases’ provided him and his team with new experiences, and that because they are in the education industry, what they saw and learned can help trainee teachers in the future to prepare for the digital age.

“As a new era of education begins, we hope that trainee teachers will have a better understanding of how to use technology,” Jarret added.

Centex, Huawei, Eon Reality, Keysight, Bosch Rexroth, Petrosains, and Sarawak Metro, among others, took part in the ‘Centexs Digital Academy Showcases’, where they demonstrated immersive technologies, Internet-of-Things (IoT), Android Mobile Application Development, Digital Marketing, and 5G.

Meanwhile, Kelly Sia, 28, a wealth management advisor, told DayakDaily that she had a good time experiencing immersive technologies like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) during the open day.

“To me, technology is essential because it is utilised in every aspect of life.

“Not only can technology help us in the present, but it can also bring the future closer,” she said.

Earlier, the closing ceremony for Centex Digital Techevent 2022 was held at Centex which was followed by the ‘Meet & Greet Session with Global Leading Partners and Industries of the International Symposium on Digital Industry Transformation’.

Centexs chief executive officer (CEO), Syeed Mohd Hussein Wan Abdul Rahman disclosed in his closing speech that he believes that with advancement of technology, especially digital technology, Sarawak can progress faster and achieve developed status with a high income economy by 2030.

“Our top priority now is to build both physical and digital infrastructure to increase efficiency and link Sarawak to the global market to power the State’s economy and digital talent development.

“This will become the platform for Sarawak’s economy to grow in the coming years, and create a thriving society for our future generation,” he said.
