KUCHING, Dec 1: Centre of Technical Excellence (Centexs) Lundu plays a huge role in realising former Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem’s dream of growing tech-savvy talents in Sarawak.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said in today’s data-driven digital world, information or big data is everything, and has a huge significance in the education of the younger generation in terms of technology.
Viewing Adenan’s vision as a stimulant for the State to strive toward digitalisation, Abang Johari said he would continue the task to develop more tech savants among Sarawakians.
“We have realised Tok Nan (Adenan)’s dream, although he’s no longer with us.
“I will continue to equip young Sarawakians with basic digital knowledge, including the areas which are tourism-based as tourism is one of Sarawak’s attractions,” he said.
While bringing tourism into the picture, Abang Johari said the two sectors, first being tourism and second being talent development and innovation, are the main focus for Lundu and Sematan districts.
The two development cores are also part of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 for Sarawak, he emphasised.
“From the tourism aspect, we will promote (Sarawak) using new ways such as augmented reality. We will use virtual and media platforms to tell outsiders the (tourism) places Sarawak have to offer.
“And regarding talent, we must train the young ones and ensure a continuous supply of innovative and creative talents.
“So, Centexs Lundu can play its part in this,” said Abang Johari during the Centexs Lundu opening ceremony and land title presentation to landowners at Centexs Lundu here today.
Among those also present at the ceremony were Centexs chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani and Tanjong Datu incumbent Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu who is also Adenan’s wife. — DayakDaily
