BAU, Nov 8: The people of Bau can be proud of themselves for having a Community Development and Intervention Centre (CDIC), the first of its kind in the State.

The centre is on the premises of the formerly unused government quarters along Jalan Bungalow, here.

During the launching of the centre here today, Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said among other services, the centre offers consultation, guidance and counselling for drug and substance abuse.

According to her, the centre prioritises treating drug and substance abuse to avoid other social implications, and will also host awareness and advocacy programmes.

“For this CDIC, which is the first of its kind in Sarawak, we will have the involvement of the police, National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), Health Department and non-governmental organisations (NGOs),” Fatimah said.

She was represented by Deputy Minister of Transport Dato Henry Harry Jinep who read out her speech text. Henry is the Tasik Biru assemblyman.

Fatimah added that the centre will also involve local community leaders and Kemas.

She also revealed that a similar centre will be built in Oya.

Henry who was happy with the centre which spent minimal funds for renovating the building, later pledged RM10,000 towards the centre. — DayakDaily
