KUCHING, Oct 9: The Magistrates Court here imposed a five-month prison sentence on a local man for threatening to kill his mother with a kitchen knife.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi delivered the verdict against Awang Jazli Awang Jalal, 24, who works as a catering assistant. The accused pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, the accused could face imprisonment for up to seven years, a fine, or both.

The accused was charged with deliberately threatening to kill his 63-year-old mother at their residence in Kampung Semariang Batu, at approximately 3.01am on June 20.

According to the facts of the case, during the incident, the complainant heard a commotion from the accused’s room and witnessed him holding a kitchen knife while pointing it in her direction, uttering the words, “aku nak netak kau” (I’m going to stab you).

The complainant’s daughter, who witnessed the incident, promptly contacted the police regarding the situation, leading to the accused’s apprehension at around 4.04am on the same day.

The root cause of the incident was the complainant’s habit of reprimanding the accused for frequently losing his temper.
