Catch Kuching Waterfront Jazz Festival preview at Rajang Bar

The Kuching Waterfront Jazz Festival will be held from Sept 28-29, 2018.

KUCHING, Sept 13: The annual Kuching Waterfront Jazz Festival (KWJF) will be holding a preview show tomorrow night (Sept 14) at the Rajang Bar, Grand Margherita Hotel Kuching.

Set as a prelude to the annual KWJF happening end of this month, the free preview show promises upbeat live jazz music, KWJF T-shirt giveaways and special promotion on event tickets for lucky audience members.

Local bands The Voglers and Tuku Kame Jazz will be rendering their original songs and catchy tunes at the preview event, which is scheduled to start at 9.30pm.

The Voglers band is one of the finalists at the KWJF Jazz Band Search competition held recently. It is a seven-piece band created several months ago, featuring a group of Kuching-based musicians.

Led by guitarist Danial Donny and featuring vocalist Aisycha Samat, keyboardist Jonathan, bassist Yume, drummer Azree, Firdaus on percussion and supported by Collin Adam on tenor saxophone, the band’s choices in music had placed them at the centre of the local music scene and dubbed as fun and high-performing.

Tuku Kame Jazz was formed by the energetic musicians of the Sarawak Cultural Village. Let by Narawi Rashidi, the band is an innovative ensemble displaying the depth of Narawi’s talent as a composer, arranger and innovator.

The musicians are all seasoned performers, having toured Canada, the United States, Australia, the Middle East, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Brunei.

Tuku Kame combines the traditional Sarawakian instruments of 30 ethnic races residing on the Island of Borneo played in contemporary tunes to create an infectious and exciting new sound.

KWJF 2018 will be happening from Sept 28-29 at the Grand Margherita Hotel after a highly successful first instalment last year. This year’s two-day jazz festival would feature a bigger star-studded line-up including multi-award winning Sarawakian songstress Dayang Nurfaizah, Ito & The Blues Gang (Malaysia), Atilia Haron (Malaysia), Aisyah Aziz (Singapore), Tompi (Indonesia), Tulus (Indonesia), Aditya (Indonesia), Carmen Souza (Portugal) and The Natalie Gillispie Band (Australia).

In addition to the performances, there would also be music workshops and a food and merchandise bazaar to be enjoyed by the whole family.

KWJF is created and organised by the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation. For more information, visit www.kuchingwaterfrontjazz.com or follow Kuching Waterfront Jazz on Facebook and Instagram.
