KUCHING, May 10: Miss International Malaysia 2022, Giselle Tay, is honoured to be in the esteemed pageant community.

She said it conditions her to focus on women’s beauty and is an opportunity to promote world peace, cultural extension and international understanding.

She pointed out the Miss International pageant has a long history of empowering young women across the world to aspire to be the best version of themselves and to become role models to the younger generation.

“Miss International’s vision in 2023 is the voice of the voiceless. We are to reach the challenges surrounding mental health and promote the right to education for children,” she said in her speech at the launching of Miss International Malaysia Sarawak by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan at Waterfront Hotel here today.

Tay said winning Miss International Malaysia 2022 was a dream come true and the experience has been nothing short of incredible.

Winning allowed her to travel to a different part of the world and meet people from diverse cultures and advocate for causes that are closest to her heart.

“Being Miss International of Malaysia has also taught me about empathy and understanding.

“I learned to appreciate the difference between people and unique situations they face. It has given me a deeper understanding and broader perspective on life.”

Tay stressed that bearing the title came with many responsibilities, and she is committed to her position to promote positive changes in the world.

“Beauty pageants can be a powerful platform for women to uphold themselves and others.

“It is my hope that we all can work together with unity, diversity and positivity in our communities and beyond.”

Tay also said that beauty pageants could provide opportunities for youth to engage with each other at the state and national level by participating in Miss International Malaysia 2023.

“Young ladies could develop their skills and experiences that could be valuable in all aspects of their life. They could be more engaged and active members of their communities,” she said. — DayakDaily
