Carpenter collapses, dies after fight during drinking session

SIBU, June 16: A drinking session between three people turned awry when one of them died after a fight broke out.

A general worker who was alleged to have caused the death of a carpenter has been arrested.

Sibu district deputy police chief Supt Collin Babat said at about 12.10am on June 14, a car accessories shop operator called up the police concerning his friend who had collapsed following a fight with the complainant.


Police investigation revealed that at about 9pm on June 13, the complainant, 47, with his carpenter friend, 43, and the suspect, 30, were having a drinking session in front of his shop in Sg Antu Industrial Estate.

However, a fight broke out between the victim and the suspect.

He said when things calmed down, the complainant and the victim continued with the drinking session.

“Suddenly the suspect charged forward and overturned the table which the victim was sitting on. He collapsed and was unconscious,” he added.

He died later at the hospital from serious brain injury.

Supt Collin said the suspect has been remanded for six days for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.—DayakDaily
