KUCHING, July 20: Eight crew members are still missing after their cargo ship overturned and sank in the waters near Pulau Burung in Sebuyau today.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak, the eight crew members from MV Tung Sung comprising three Malaysians, four Myanmarese and one Indonesian are still unaccounted for as of 5pm.
In a news report by TVS, Sarawak Maritime director First Admiral Zin Azman Md Yunus confirmed the incident and stated that the KM Kinabalu vessel was present at the location to aid in the search and rescue efforts earlier today.
Malaysia Maritime assets, including the Kilat boat and the Royal Malaysia Police’s air assets, have been deployed to the area to conduct search operations.
The distress call from the cargo ship’s owner was received by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sarawak around 9.40 am today.
The search and rescue operation, which was also assisted by the Bomba Simunjan team, will continue tomorrow (July 21). — DayakDaily
