KUCHING, July 21: Canopy tents have been set up to replace the dilapidated school hall and buildings at SMK Sebuyau for the use of its teachers and students.

According to Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, he has allocated the tents so that they can be used to carry out school activities.

“The space in these tents is very meaningful and useful while waiting for the reconstruction work of the school to commence in the near future,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Julaihi, who is also the Sebuyau assemblyman, further said the school is one of the dilapidated schools in Sarawak and is waiting to be built on a new site that has been prepared for a long time in the new town of Sebuyau.

“I have spoken many times about the condition of this school, which is dilapidated but still accommodates almost a thousand students.

“It is a pity to see the teachers and students have to use this kind of facility compared to their friends in other schools who have better facilities,” he added.

Despite being in a state of deprivation, he said the school’s goal remains the same, which is to succeed and achieve excellent results in the exams every year, with last year’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results increased and improved.

Julaihi visited the school yesterday (July 20), where he was accompanied by SMK Sebuyau principal Awang Abas Awang Lawi, Sebuyau Constituency Service Centre officer Ahmad Ayup and Sebuyau District officer Ayuradiman Bujang. — DayakDaily
