KUCHING, Aug 8: Minister for Local Government and Housing Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian is appealing to sons of St Joseph and Sarawakians to help raise RM3 million for the school’s Mill Hill Blocks (1894) Restoration project.
Dr Sim, who also the Old Josephian Association (OJA) chairman, revealed the school board acting chairman Christopher Chua had already handed over the letter of appointment for the project costing RM5.5 million with a duration of nine months to the contractor which ceremony was blessed by fellow old boy Archbishop Simon Poh.
“Since we started raising the fund in 2017, Old Josephian Association had collected more than RM2.5 million, out of which RM1.5 million was contributed by the Sarawak government,” he said in a post in his Facebook page yesterday (Aug 7).
He emphasised that St Joseph has given thousands of Sarawakians the most precious gift, ‘education, which has enabled Josephians to excel and thrive in all fields throughout the world.
“Josephians had played significant role in building and developing Sarawak socially, economically and politically, notably with four of six Chief Ministers of Sarawak from St Joseph Kuching,” he pointed out.
Dr Sim stressed that this is the first time in years that the school is calling on the public to help with the restoration of the unsafe Mill Hill school block.
“Please help generously so that the school can continue to provide education in the best of La Sallian spirit for our fellow Sarawakians for the next 100 years,” he urged.
