Cahya Mata Sarawak champions sports philanthropy with book launch at 50th anniversary media night

KUCHING, Dec 9: Cahya Mata Sarawak (Cahya Mata) celebrates its golden jubilee tonight with a media night at a hotel in Kuching, launching a commemorative book, ‘Beyond the Finish Line: 50 Sarawak Sports Legends and Heroes’, celebrating Sarawakian athletes who have brought pride to the State through their achievements.

The book launch served as a tribute to the athletes who embody the spirit of resilience and excellence, which aligned with Cahya Mata’s vision of fostering talent and creating opportunities that unite and uplift communities.

This year, Cahya Mata reinforced its commitment to sports philanthropy as a gold sponsor of the Malaysia Games (Sukma) XXI Sarawak. Beyond this, the company has supported various sports, including squash, badminton, regatta, and golf, dedicating its efforts to fostering excellence, unity, and growth across the sporting community.

Themed ‘Celebrating Diversity’, the media night highlighted Cahya Mata’s evolution from Cement Manufacturing Sarawak in 1974 to a multinational corporation today, underpinned by its core values of innovation, excellence, and inclusivity.

“In many ways, the media mirrors this diversity. Your (media) industry, thrives on a multitude of voices, stories, and perspectives, ensuring that the narratives you share are rich, balanced, and reflective of the world we live in,” said the Group Managing Director, Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Abdul Taib during his speech.

The event drew esteemed members of the media, whose presence reflected Cahya Mata’s expanding regional influence and their commitment to building bridges within and beyond Sarawak.

“While we (Cahya Mata and media) come from different sectors, our common commitment to embracing diversity unites us. Together, we can continue to foster understanding, drive progress, and achieve a better future for all,” he added.

Cahya Mata acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the media fraternity during the event by presenting each media house with a copy of the commemorative book, symbolising the company’s appreciation for the insightful reporting and balanced coverage. –DayakDaily
