SIBU, May 28: Eight persons including the owner of a cafe here have been compounded while another four were arrested for playing “Mahjong” yesterday.
Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said seven persons who were caught for dining-in at a cafe at Jalan Market were compounded RM2,000 each while the owner of the cafe was compounded RM5,000 for allowing the seven to dine-in.
The action was taken against them for violating Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO)’s standard operating procedures (SOP).
“They were caught by an integrated SOP monitoring team led by ASP Kushairy Bujang at 11.48am yesterday,” he said.
The team, after conducting further checking on the premises, found four persons, aged between 30 to 63, playing a tile game of ‘Mahjong’.
The four suspects have been detained for investigation under Section 6(1) of the Common Gambling House Act 1953. — DayakDaily
