KUCHING, March 24: The Federal government is set to present a Cabinet paper to adjust the implementation of projects in Sarawak, ensuring they align with the State’s unique needs, which may differ from those in Peninsular Malaysia.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof underscored the importance of obtaining clear policy direction from the Cabinet to ensure effective project implementation, especially in Sarawak’s remote areas, according to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report.
Fadillah highlighted that the proposed model for Sarawak could also be applied to Sabah, especially in rural areas.
He pointed to the challenges faced in the construction of schools in remote locations, as raised by the Ministry of Education.
Issues such as budget constraints, a lack of contractors, logistical problems, manpower shortages, and limited building materials have caused delays, suspensions, or cancellations of projects.
These concerns were discussed at the first 2025 State Development Action Council (MTPNG) meeting held here today, which was jointly chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof and Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Fadillah added that specific Cabinet guidance was necessary to address these issues and ensure smooth project implementation in the State.
Present at the meeting were Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy State Secretary for Economic Planning and Development Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63, and Intergovernmental Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration, and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala, and Sarawak Attorney General Dato Sri Saferi Ali. — DayakDaily
