KUCHING, Nov 15: A businessman was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment and one stroke of the cane after he was found guilty of physically sexually assaulting his underage step-granddaughter.
Sessions Court Judge Jason Juga today ruled at the end of the trial that the 58-year-old is guilty as charged and ordered the accused to undergo police supervision for a year after serving his jail sentence.
The accused was charged with sucking the 14-year-old victim’s breast and touched her private parts for sexual purposes at a house in Matang, at about 3pm on December 11, 2019.
He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and is punishable under Section 14 of the same Act, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 20 years and with whipping.
On February 18, 2022, the court ordered the accused to enter his defence after the prosecution called eight witnesses and successfully proved a prima facie case.
The defense had called two witnesses.
