KUCHING, April 30: Business operators and patrons are responsible for ensuring they are free of Covid-19 or are low-risk before entering business premises.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the new protocol was discussed with business associations and retailers during a recently-engaged engagement session.

“The engagement session agreed that keeping the business ecosystem safe from the spread of Covid-19 rests not only with the government and business owners, but also those who visit the premises,” he said in a statement yesterday (April 29).

Khairy noted this is in line with the empowerment of individual responsibility and community solidarity to ensure the nation’s transition to the endemic stage runs smoothly and safely.

He said premises owners or enforcement teams are also given the authority to randomly check the visitors’ risk status in their MySejahtera application.

“If the status of the visitor is found to be high-risk, enforcement action can be imposed on the visitor under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) for failing to comply with the rules, in addition to posing a risk to the public,” he added. — DayakDaily
