KUCHING, June 19: A burst pipe at Bukit Song in Bekenu was repaired last night, enabling water disruptions in certain areas to recover gradually.

Repair work was completed at 10.20pm, and the booster pump at Bukit Song came to live again at 11.45 pm.

Water supply to areas such as Bekenu Pelat, Sulap Peps, Lelulit, Terahad, Kelompok Tentara, Kuala Sibuti, Rumah Renang, Tiris and Tunah is expected to recover at different stages.

Meanwhile, areas that are still under low water pressure are the coastal road area, Bukit Peninjau-Beluru and those in hilly and end-point areas.

Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Miri continues to advise all residents affected by the incident to take preparatory steps by storing and conserving water.

Heavy vehicle movement, involving construction work along Pan Borneo Highway, caused a water main to burst in Bukit Song yesterday. The incident happened at about 4.15 pm, where a 500mm diameter pipe was found to have burst.

The pipe was supplying water to the Bukit Song Water Plant. The broken pipe had resulted in little or no water being channelled to Bukit Song Reservoir last night. — DayakDaily
