KUCHING, Aug 12: A major water pipeline burst along Jalan Tun Jugah here today has put 16 areas at risk of temporary water supply disruptions.
In a statement, Sarawak Water said the 840mm-diameter main pipeline burst at about 3pm due to third-party works associated with the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project.
The incident could result in low water pressure or temporary interruptions to water supply in the affected areas.
The affected areas are Jalan Kenyalang Park, Jalan Upland, Jalan Song, Jalan Ong Tiang Swee, Jalan Simpang Tiga, Jalan Seladah, Jalan Kenny Hill, Jalan Jelutong, Jalan Pending, Jalan Kwong Lee Bank, Jalan Ang Cheng Ho, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Durian Burung, Jalan Sekama, Jalan Mendu and Jalan Lumba Kuda. Surrounding areas may also be affected.
Sarawak Water said its response team had been deployed to the site to isolate the affected section of the pipeline before repair works could be carried out safely.
It said repair works would be undertaken as quickly as possible, with water supply restored in stages once the repairs were completed.
However, consumers in areas further along the distribution network may have to wait longer for water pressure to return to normal.
Sarawak Water also warned that temporary discolouration or cloudiness of the water may occur during the recovery period due to sediments being disturbed by changes in water pressure.
Flushing will be carried out at necessary locations to help restore and stabilise water quality.
Further updates on the repair progress and restoration of water supply will be issued through Sarawak Water’s official communication channels.
Sarawak Water apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked affected consumers for their patience and understanding.
