MIRI, Sept 28: Three unknown individuals armed with iron rods and machetes broke into an office that purchases oil palm fruits and made off with RM31,000 in cash.

According to Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, the trio, believed to be locals, had broken into the office at Sepupok, here, at around 1.50am, Thursday.

They fled with a drawer containing the cash and had threatened a male security guard during their intrusion.

“The office has been operating since 2017, dealing with oil palm smallholders and purchasing their fruits. The missing cash was supposed to be the payment for their (the smallholders) fruits,” said Lim when contacted.

The smallholders collected the payment once a month, he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 and Section 397 for gang robbery and commit robbery using weapons. — DayakDaily
