KUCHING, July 22: Bung Bratak Heritage Centre (BBHC) hosted a special Sarawak Day celebration with visiting medical students of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), surrounding Bidayuh villagers and members of the public earlier today.
According to Bung Bratak Heritage Association chairman Dato Peter Minos, Sarawakians must always respect and honour the date of July 22, 1963 – the day when Sarawak was freed from British colonialism and domination.
He also said Sarawakians must not forget those who struggled for Sarawak’s independence, especially the first governor of Sarawak, Tun Datuk Abang Openg Abang Sapiee, and the first chief minister Tan Sri Stephen Kalong Ningkan.
“For 60 years since 1963, Sarawakians had toiled and struggled for their beloved Sarawak to make it what it is today; united and progressive, harmonious, stable and well led by the current Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“As things are now and given the current highly vigorous economic and social development, Sarawak is definitely poised to be an advanced State and most probably economically and socially well developed by 2030, enjoying racial peace and harmony.
“Sarawak will surely be a class on its own and a highly valued jewel in Malaysia,” he said in a statement today. — DayakDaily
