SIBU, July 24: A proper respiratory clinic at the Jalan Oya Polyclinic here will be built soon.
“At the moment the respiratory clinic is operating from the carpark with banners to shield from rain and sunlight. I cannot let the doctors and nurses work under poor conditions,” said Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng when he visited the site earlier today, pointing out that patients are also exposed to the weather.
He added that Sibu District Health Officer Dr Teh Joon Hung had approached him to look into the matter.
“Together with the Sibu Hospital Visitors Board, we will come up with the design for the respiratory clinic for Sibu Health Office to approve,” he disclosed.
Chieng said eight parking lots would have to make way for the construction of the clinic which is expected to cost about RM150,000 with the funds coming from his Minor Rural Project (MRP) allocation.
According to the polyclinic’s medical officer-in-charge, Dr Chieng Hie Meng, the said clinic was moved out from the main building during the Movement Control Order in 2020.
“On average, there are about 70 fever and cough patients seeking treatment at the clinic,” she said.
Chieng said the project is one of the polyclinic upgrading projects he is overseeing.
The other involves the relocation of five air-con compressor units next to the clinic’s pharmacy.
The relocation was necessary as the heat emitted by the compressors is causing discomfort to patients waiting to collect their medicine.
Chieng had also used RM3,000 for the installation of four wooden blinds at the satellite clinic of the polyclinic. — DayakDaily
