KUCHING, July 3: Registration applications for Budi Diesel under the new category for company-owned jeeps and pickup trucks used for private business purposes are now open starting today (July 3), with subsidy eligibility set to take effect from July 15 upon approval and issuance of a fleet card.

Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said that the expansion falls under the Controlled Diesel Subsidy System (SKDS), which is overseen by the ministry.

“The SKDS provides diesel subsidies to eligible business entities, companies and cooperatives nationwide.

“The subsidy is delivered through a fleet card system with fixed quotas based on vehicle type, usage class and vehicle technical specifications,” he said in a statement today.

Armizan added that the latest expansion introduces a new category to the existing system, which already covers the public land transport sector and essential goods freight transport.

“With the inclusion of the new category, SKDS now covers a total of 35 vehicle types and usage classes,” he said.

The listed vehicle types include articulated vehicles; catering lorries or buses/vans; rigid lorries (including curtainsider, agricultural goods, general cargo, bottled drinks, animal pen, open platform, refrigerated, waste, water and flour transport); window vans; panel vans; mobile service vehicles; ambulances; buses; multipurpose vehicles; and hearses.

He explained that the initiative is aimed at supporting micro and small business operators registered as sole proprietorships or partnerships, particularly those using vehicles such as pickups and jeeps for business operations.

To qualify, vehicles must be registered under the Company Private Use (AE) classification in the Road Transport Department’s MySikap system, and the business must be registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia or relevant local authorities in Sabah and Sarawak.

The targeted diesel subsidy programme is implemented through several mechanisms, including individual subsidies under Budi Diesel and support for farmers, livestock breeders and smallholders under Budi Agri-Komoditi, both regulated by the Ministry of Finance (MoF). Meanwhile, the Fishermen’s Diesel Subsidy Scheme is overseen by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM).

Eligible business owners are encouraged to submit their applications promptly via the MySubsidi portal at https://mysubsidi.kpdn.gov.my.

Armizan said the government remains committed to ensuring that diesel subsidies are better targeted, reducing leakage while protecting genuine users in the business sector. — DayakDaily
