KUCHING, June 29: Vehicle owners with diesel-powered vehicles registered under their name but used by family members can now transfer eligibility for the BUDI Diesel subsidy to eligible close relatives under a new facility introduced by the government.

In a recent Facebook post, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said the new function under the BUDI MADANI system allows applicants to shift their BUDI Diesel eligibility to immediate family members who are the actual users of the vehicle, while ownership of the vehicle remains unchanged.

Eligible recipients are strictly limited to close family members, namely spouses, parents, children and siblings, provided they meet the BUDI195 eligibility criteria.

Under the mechanism, the transfer will also include the additional 100-litre entitlement, where applicable.

For illustration, MOF said a father who is eligible for both BUDI195 and BUDI Diesel may transfer his diesel subsidy eligibility to his child. After approval, the father will remain eligible for BUDI95 only, while the child will receive BUDI195 eligibility and BUDI Diesel benefits.

However, the ministry stressed that each application can only be made once, and once approved, the transfer is final and cannot be reversed back to the original owner.

Application timeline

For the first phase, applications must be submitted on or before July 12, 2026, with status checks available starting July 15, 2026.

For subsequent months, applications must be submitted by the 27th of each month. Approved applicants will be able to enjoy the benefits starting on the first day of the following month.

How to apply

Applicants may submit their requests via the official BUDI MADANI portal by logging in, selecting the “Permohonan Pemindahan Kelayakan BUDI Diesel” menu, completing the required details and submitting the application.

The application portal can be accessed at: BUDI MADANI

MOF said the initiative is aimed at ensuring targeted subsidies reach intended beneficiaries, particularly in situations where vehicles are used by different members of a household. — DayakDaily
