KUCHING, Oct 7: The Federal government has set aside RM200 million to cover the costs of logistics and distribution of essential goods to close the gap on price disparity next year.
Finance Minister Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said this is part of the Federal government’s commitment to ensure the basic necessities such as rice, cooking oil, LPG gas, petrol and diesel reach the hands of rural population at reasonable prices.
“The government will also expand the benefits of the programme to 23 new areas including Kampung Passin in Mukah, Sarawak and Kampung Tawayari in Lahad Datu Sabah,” he said when tabling the Budget 2023 in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He also said the Malaysian Family Cheap Sale Programme has been implemented since August and benefits consumers by offering prices of basic necessities up to 20 percent cheaper than the market price.
“Since its launch, this programme has been held in over 500 locations and this week, it was organised in Kanowit, Sarawak,” he added.
Following the positive impact of this programme especially for B40 households, it will be continued for implementation covering 600 State constituencies, 13 federal constituencies and in public universities nationwide with an allocation of RM100 million. — DayakDaily
