Brunei affirms continued good relationship with S’wak amid 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations

KUCHING, June 28: The government of Brunei will continue to maintain strong ties with Sarawak, as affirmed during a recent courtesy visit.

According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg welcomed Brunei Darussalam’s Second Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato Seri Setia Awang Erywan Pehin Sri Datu Pekerma Jaya Mohd Yusof, at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here yesterday (June 27).

As per Awang Erywan, this year marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and Sarawak.

“This year marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Brunei and Sarawak since our country gained independence. So, we continue to maintain this good relationship,” he was quoted as saying.

Awang Erywan made the remarks while speaking with reporters after paying a courtesy visit to Abang Johari.

The Brunei minister arrived at 4pm and spent approximately an hour in the meeting with the Premier.

Also present during the courtesy call were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Brunei Darussalam’s Consul General Sheikh Abdul Mahdani Datuk Paduka Sheikh Abdul Gani. — DayakDaily
