SIBU, Dec 1: A female clerk who applied for a personal loan to cover her wedding expenses ended up losing RM3,000 to a non-existent loan scheme.

According to Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, on Nov 26, the 26-year-old victim saw an online advertisement purportedly by Syarikat Ace Credit (M) offering personal loans.

“The victim was interested to apply a loan of RM5,000 for her wedding expenses,” he disclosed.

She subsequently contacted the advertiser through WhatsApp.

“She was asked to make a bank transfer of RM3,000 as collateral for the loan. She was also told that the money would be refunded to her, after she had settled the loan,” Stanley added.

On Nov 28, the victim made two fund transfers to an account number provided by the suspect she was in contact with.

She realised that she has been conned when the suspect demanded more payment from her and subsequently lodged a police report.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. — DayakDaily
