KUCHING, Oct 6: Brazil has proposed the use of Embraer aircraft, manufactured by its leading aircraft producer, as a suitable option for Sarawak’s newly established State-owned airline, Air Borneo.

Brazilian Ambassador to Malaysia, Daniella Ortega Menezes, raised the suggestion during a courtesy call on Sarawak Minister for Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin at his office in Bangunan Baitulmakmur, Petra Jaya here today.

This marks her first official visit to Sarawak since assuming her post as Ambassador on Aug 1 this year.

Commending Sarawak for setting up its own airline, she said Air Borneo reflects the State government’s commitment to strengthening air connectivity and advancing its transport sector.

“Embraer produces aircraft models that could be well-suited for Sarawak’s regional and domestic routes,” she reportedly said in a press release.

Lee, in response, expressed appreciation for the Ambassador’s insights on Brazil’s aviation industry and sustainability initiatives, noting that both Brazil and Sarawak share similar geographical and climatic challenges where air connectivity plays a crucial role in linking communities and supporting regional growth.

Both sides also agreed to maintain close communication and explore potential areas of cooperation in transport and aviation development.

Also present during the meeting were Honorary Consul of Brazil in Sarawak Datuk Amar Jaul Samion, Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MOTS) permanent secretary Datu Wong Hee Sieng, and the Ministry’s Head of Aviation Division Zulkarnain Rosli. — DayakDaily
