KUCHING, April 20: There will be extra standard operating procedures (SOPs) to be enforced in Kuching, Betong, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri effective tomorrow (April 21) as part of the stricter measures to prevent the transmission of Covid-19 in Sarawak.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the committee has agreed to the additional SOPs due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases reported in those districts.

He disclosed the details of the additional SOPs will be announced on the website of the National Security Council (MKN).

ā€œToday, SDMC is weighing a few suggestions from several divisional disaster management committees (DDMC) regarding new SOPs.

ā€œThe new SOPs were proposed because the DDMC believes that the number of Covid-19 cases will rise.

ā€œTherefore, SDMC has agreed to the new terms of the SOPs which was recommended to the committee,ā€ he said during a press conference on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak at the Old State Legislative building here today.

Meanwhile, Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri have been classified as Covid-19 red zones while Betong is classified as an orange zone.

Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri districts reported a cumulative 4,221 cases of Covid-19 in the past 14 days.

In the meantime, Betong registered a total of 33 cases of Covid-19 in the past fortnight.

Among those present at the press conference were SDMC advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian and State Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing. ā€” DayakDaily
