MIRI, Jan 27: Police yesterday arrested a 23 year-old local man following the death of his girlfriend earlier that day.
The suspect was arrested at Miri Hospital compound at 7am.
According to initial investigations, the 22 year-old deceased had quarrelled with the suspect on their way back to Miri from Sungai Setulai Baru, Lambir.
Following the quarrel, the deceased, a local college student, sustained injuries on her head and body.
Miri police chief, ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed the arrest and said that they are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Police are investigating the possibility that the deceased might have been murdered during the quarrel.
The police were notified about the incident after receiving a report lodged by Miri Hospital after the suspect and his brother rushed the victim to the emergency unit; however, the young woman died upon arrival there. — DayakDaily
